Abstract :
This paper aimed to study the relationship
between emotional intelligence, rumination and suicidal
ideation among youths. In addition, it also aimed to
measure the gender differences in suicidal ideation. This
research was conducted through survey method. A total
of 131 undergraduate students participated in this study.
Wong and Law Emotional Intelligence Scale (WLEIS),
Repetitive Thinking Questionnaire-10 (RTQ-10) and
Positive and Negative Suicidal Ideation Inventory
(PANSI) were the instruments used in the study. Results
indicated that there was a significant negative correlation
between emotional intelligence and suicidal ideation.
Meanwhile, rumination was reported to have a significant
positive correlation with suicidal ideation. The
implications of the study were discussed.
