Abstract :
Subsidized housing in the Papua Highlands is generally not fully adapted to the region's geographical conditions,
climate, and local cultural characteristics. This study aims to analyze the structural components, construction cost,
construction time, and the influence of building volume on the cost and construction time of Honai houses among the Dani,
Lani, and Yali tribes. A mixed-methods approach was employed, involving 75 informants through interviews, field
observations, documentation, and building measurements. Quantitative data were analyzed using SPSS, while qualitative
data were examined descriptively. The findings indicate that all major components of the Honai house are constructed from
locally sourced forest materials, and the construction process is carried out through community mutual cooperation, making
food provision the largest construction expense. Regression analysis revealed that building volume has No. significant effect
on either construction cost (Sig. = 0.154) or construction time (Sig. = 0.347). These findings suggest that Honai construction
is influenced more by the local social system and the availability of natural resources than by building size.
