Morus nigra commonly known as black mulberry belongs to the family Moraceae. Mulberry plants have been grown for the production of silk worms and for the preparation of vinegars, juices, jams, marmalades, wines and cosmetics. Morus nigra plant is native to South-western Asia and it is used as traditional herbal medicines for humans and animals since time immemorial. In this article, recent research progress on various phytochemical constituents, nutrient composition and antioxidant properties from different parts of M. nigra are reviewed. M. nigra are in worldwide trend as the plants exhibited various biologically active substances and pharmacological effects such as antioxidant, anti-diabetic, anticancer, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, anti-obesity and weight-loss activities. It is rich in source of bioactive compounds that can improve and promote human health, mainly based on its antioxidant properties
