Abstract :
This study investigated the concentrations of
some selected trace and alkaline earth metals (Na, K, Mg,
Cu, Fe and Zn) in soil and plant around rural
bathroomslocated around Ambrose Alli University, hostel
(AAU hostel) Ekpoma, Ujemen and Idumebo villages, all
in Esan West Local Government Area, Edo State Nigeria.
The ranges of metal concentration in the soil analysed
were also recorded. The results showed that the
concentration of the metals analysed were below the
WHO/FAO and EU guideline standards. Pearson
Correlation Coefficient, r, gave a positive correlations
between the soil and plant for all the metals analysed
expect for Zn. The study revealed that metal poison could
result from bioaccumulation of these metals. Also,
bioconcentration factor for all the metals analysed show
that the plant can be used for phytoremediation purposes.
