Association of Climate-Resilient Agricultural Management, Food Security and Natural Resource Dependency with Soil Salinity in Coastal Bangladesh

Abstract : Soil salinity is a major challenge to agricultural production in the coastal regions of Bangladesh threatening environment, food security and rural livelihoods. This study examined the association between climate-resilient agricultural management, household food security, natural resource dependency and soil salinity (EC) in Ramjannagar Union, Shyamnagar Upazila. A cross-sectional survey of 44 farming households was conducted and soil electrical conductivity (EC) was measured from 44 corresponding agricultural plots. A Climate-Resilient Agricultural Management Index was constructed using Principal Component Analysis (PCA), while the Natural Resource Dependency Index (NRDI) and Food Consumption Score (FCS) were used to assess household livelihood dependency and food security status. Robust Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) regression was applied to examine their associations with soil EC.
