Abstract :
Intellectual traits such as open-mindedness and humility play a crucial role in scientific inquiry by fostering a
culture of critical thinking, collaboration, and adaptability. This study explores how these intellectual attributes influence
scientific research, hypothesis testing, and peer review processes. Through a systematic literature review, key findings
reveal that intellectual humility enhances epistemic curiosity, reduces cognitive biases, and improves scientific discourse.
Open-mindedness, on the other hand, promotes interdisciplinary collaboration, facilitates paradigm shifts, and fosters
scientific innovation. The study further discusses the implications of these traits in education, peer review, and research
integrity. Given the growing need for adaptability in modern scientific practice, fostering intellectual humility and open-
mindedness is essential for advancing knowledge production. Future research should explore empirical interventions that
encourage these traits among scientists and educators to enhance the credibility and effectiveness of scientific inquiry.
